Introduction
The importance and impact of having a good counsellor - a counsellor that is most right for you - can be enormous to one's overall sense of well-being. My hopes are that learning about me will help you decide if I can be that right counsellor for you.
Becoming a counsellor, for me, was a natural outgrowth of my work as an intuitive. Intuitive consultations offered many answers to my clients but were lacking a component that I felt was essential for one's growth: processing of the received information and integrating the newly acquired understanding of the self in order to make the necessary changes in attitudes and behaviours and, thus, have a more fulfilling life. Although I still offer Intuitive Consultations on their own, I find that they serve only as a remedial solution to one's problems - a "quick fix" of sorts, without addressing the underlying issues of inner discomfort.
As a result, after earning a diploma in Counselling Psychology and continuing honing my therapy skills with the Canadian Psychoanalytic Society at Vancouver General Hospital, I developed a new powerful framework for helping my clients, which is now known as Intuition-Enhanced Psychotherapy.
What is Intuition-Enhanced Psychotherapy?
Intuition-Enhanced Psychotherapy is a form of depth psychology combining both therapist's and client's intuition with traditional psychotherapy techniques.
Depth psychology means that a great deal of attention is paid to the unconscious mind as a possible source of a person's difficulties, such as inner conflicts, anxieties and tensions or external issues, for example, finding meaningful work and/or forming fulfilling relationships.
The intuitive element comes from both sides of the counselling relationship. The client is encouraged to pay attention to all aspects of self - be they spiritual, emotional, physical or psychological. Any impulse or insight matters and can become fodder for discussion and exploration.
The psychotherapist brings his own highly developed intuitive abilities to help illuminate possible areas of "stuckness" for the client, provide answers to unresolved situations or offer explanations to life's puzzles. Together with the therapist, the client is then able to gain insight into the difficulties he or she has been experiencing, make sense of them through psychotherapeutic processing and move forward with a more integrated sense of self and capacity to make better choices and have better outcomes.
This framework allows for plenty of room to explore the many issues that can arise during the process of healing and reinventing oneself. Some of the more common issues that people come to see me with are:
- Coping with Life's Transitions
- Resolving/Reconciling Traumatic Events, past or present
