My early experiences with writing were as unique as my experiences with intuition. As a young writer, I had to reconcile the fact that when I thought of written words, all I could hear in my head was music, but when I actually tried to write music, all that came out were words. It took some time before I was able to express myself solely via the written word, but like all things universal, it was more about process than product. The experience taught me that even though we are all born with gifts, we must take the responsibility to develop them so that the universe can express itself through us, consequently transforming us into a reflection of itself. There were other life-defining moments that shaped my writing destiny.
The first one was on the day I first heard The Beatles. When those opening chords to A Hard Day's Night plowed through my ears, I knew I was being exposed to something far beyond the music. Listening to precision of their delivery, I understood that there was a way to communicate to people outside of any convention. That way was an energetic imprint that could be encoded, packaged and delivered via any creative form. In my case, it was writing.
Another life defining moment came when I read Nietzsche's Beyond Good and Evil. I have to admit I could barely understand it at the time, but I was so in awe of his artistry that I thought to myself, "I didn't know that you could do that with words". It impressed upon me that I didn't need to use a lot of words to convey universal concepts. I hope you will notice some of that influence in my work.
Some time later, I got a job working at a bookstore specializing in metaphysics, self-help, psychology, etc. All of these areas resonate with me. While working there, I read over a hundred books on everything from spirituality, conscious awareness, healing, psychology, you name it. These books truly helped me understand the inner workings of us as human beings and our connection to each other and the universe. Despite the wealth of information I was exposed to, I still felt like it was missing something. Eventually, I recognized that I was looking for an energetic punch that would knock me off my feet like The Beatles did years prior. Once I was able to crystallize this yearning, I realized that of course I'd be the one who'd have to deliver the punch. Oh, no.
Since then, thoughts, words, ideas and concepts started arriving into my consciousness at the most inopportune times: in the middle of the night, at the movies or insanely early in the morning. These ideas demanded my attention, much like a child does, and would not let me be unless I put them to paper.
As a result of this process, I've written a number of articles and have been published on-line and in-print on several occasions. I had my own column in Real West Magazine for two years. I've written for radio, stand-up comedians, worked on monologues, speeches and advertisements. I was thrilled when the sketch I wrote for The Conan O'Brien Show was performed during his first year on NBC.
Writing continues to be a major mode of expression for me. Currently, I am readying my first book for publication: an introduction to a series I've written on personal, psychological and spiritual development. Please check my website for updates on the process.
